Tamirat Tola Wins Marathon Gold in Paris
Ethiopia's Tamirat Tola won the men's marathon at the Paris Olympics, setting a new Olympic record with a time of 2:06:26. Tola, who was a late addition to the Ethiopian team due to a teammate's injury, dominated the race from early on and finished 21 seconds ahead of Belgium's Bashir Abdi, who took silver. Kenya's Benson Kipruto claimed bronze. Meanwhile, Kenyan legend Eliud Kipchoge, aiming for a historic third consecutive gold, failed to finish the race. Tola's victory marks Ethiopia's first Olympic marathon gold in 24 years. Tola, the 2022 world champion, expressed immense pride in achieving his lifelong dream.
