Swiss Ski Champion Lara Gut-Behrami Plans Retirement After 2026 Olympics

Swiss alpine ski racing star Lara Gut-Behrami has announced that the 2025-26 season, which includes the Winter Olympics in Italy, will be her final competitive season. With an illustrious career spanning since age 16, she boasts 48 World Cup wins, 100 podiums, and multiple titles including overall World Cup championships in 2015-16 and 2023-24, as well as six Super-G globes. Gut-Behrami is the first woman to achieve at least ten World Cup victories across three different disciplines and is recognized as the most successful female Super-G skier in history. She will be competing in her fourth Olympics in 2026 before retiring and relocating to England with her husband Valon Behrami, who will assume the role of technical director at Watford FC. Her departure is lamented by skiing legends such as Austria's Alexandra Meissnitzer, who praised her exceptional athleticism, strategic acumen, and strong personal presence both on and off the piste.
