Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suffered a fall on a marble staircase in Luxembourg while wearing high heels, which resulted in a broken hip and subsequent surgery. Congressman Mike McCaul, who was present during the incident, described how Pelosi lost her footing on one of the last steps of the railing-less staircase. After the fall, she was assisted by McCaul and was later transported to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany for hip replacement surgery. Pelosi's spokesperson confirmed that the surgery was successful and she is in good spirits, expressing eagerness to return home. The former Speaker was in Luxembourg as part of a bipartisan delegation commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. Despite her injury, McCaul noted that she is energetic and recovering well.
