Alvaro Herrero Wins 2025 Underwater Photographer of the Year

Spanish photographer Alvaro Herrero has been awarded the title of Underwater Photographer of the Year for his striking image titled 'Radiant Bond,' which captures the intimate relationship between a humpback whale and her newborn calf in French Polynesia. The competition attracted over 6,750 entries across various categories, showcasing the beauty and fragility of marine life. Judge Peter Rowlands praised Herrero's photo as a powerful representation of maternal love and the resilience of whale populations. Other notable winners included David Alpert, who was recognized as British Underwater Photographer of the Year, and Korean photographer Ruruka, named Up and Coming Underwater Photographer of the Year. The contest, established in 1965, continues to highlight the importance of underwater photography in raising awareness about marine conservation. The results were announced during a ceremony held in London on February 19.
