FDNY Honors Chaplain John E. Delendick

FDNY Chaplain Monsignor John E. Delendick, who died from 9/11-related cancer, was honored during a heartfelt plaque dedication ceremony on November 22, 2024, in Brooklyn. Delendick, a beloved figure among firefighters, joined the FDNY in 1996 and provided invaluable support in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, officiating countless memorials and funerals for fallen heroes. FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker praised his quick wit and ability to connect with department members, highlighting Delendick's profound impact on the community. First Deputy Commissioner Mark Guerra and many others expressed their admiration for the chaplain’s dedication and compassionate presence. The ceremony gathered around 100 attendees, celebrating his legacy of service and support to the FDNY family. Delendick passed away on November 23, 2023, at the age of 74, leaving behind a legacy of spiritual guidance and friendship within the fire department.
