Veteran Indian Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin Retires from IPL After 16 Years
Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) after a remarkable 16-year career, signaling a new phase as he explores opportunities in other global T20 leagues. Ashwin began his IPL journey in 2009 with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), playing a total of 221 matches and taking 187 wickets, ranking as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the tournament's history. Over his career, he represented five franchises, including CSK, Rising Pune Supergiant, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals, contributing significantly to CSK's title wins in 2010 and 2011. Despite a challenging final season in 2025 where he took only seven wickets in nine matches, Ashwin expressed gratitude to all the franchises and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for their support. He shared his decision on social media, emphasizing that while his IPL career has ended, his journey in cricket is far from over as he looks forward to participating in other franchise leagues worldwide. Ashwin’s retirement marks the conclusion of one of IPL’s most successful and strategic off-spin careers.
