Two women, Amal Mohammed Ahmed, 38, and Tracey Julie Haybittle, 58, were killed in a head-on collision after Ahmed drove the wrong way down a slip road on the A5 near Milton Keynes, reportedly following confusing sat-nav directions. The incident, which occurred last November, prompted assistant coroner Sean Cummings to issue a Prevention of Future Deaths report, highlighting issues with sat-nav audio commands that misdirect drivers. Despite measures taken by National Highways, including narrowing the slip road and installing 'No Entry' signs, numerous near-misses have been reported at the junction. Cummings noted that while visual displays on sat-navs were correct, the verbal instructions frequently led to dangerous mistakes. The coroner has urged technology companies and local authorities to take further action to prevent similar tragedies. They have until October 17 to respond to the recommendations outlined in the report.
