Nobel Laureate Narges Mohammadi Hospitalized in Iran

Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has been hospitalized after nearly nine weeks of deteriorating health while in Evin Prison, where she has been serving a lengthy sentence for her activism. The Free Narges Coalition is calling for her to be granted a medical furlough for comprehensive treatment, emphasizing that mere hospitalization is insufficient to address the severe health issues stemming from prolonged neglect. Mohammadi, 52, suffers from heart disease and has experienced complications with a major artery, according to a September medical report. Recently, Iranian authorities imposed an additional six-month sentence after she protested the execution of another political prisoner. The coalition continues to demand her unconditional release and full access to necessary medical care, amid escalating concerns for her wellbeing and rights. Mohammadi is recognized as the 19th woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize and the second Iranian woman to achieve this honor.
