NHS Vascular Surgeon Neil Hopper Jailed for Insurance Fraud Over Self-Amputation

Neil Hopper, an NHS vascular surgeon from Truro, Cornwall, admitted to insurance fraud and possessing extreme pornography after having his own legs amputated below the knees. Hopper falsely claimed to insurers that his amputations were due to illness, specifically sepsis, while in reality he had self-inflicted the injuries by freezing his legs with dry ice to force their removal. He was connected to Marius Gustavson, known as the 'Eunuch Maker,' who ran a website featuring extreme body modifications including castrations, and Hopper exchanged thousands of messages with him about his amputation plans. Hopper's fraud involved receiving nearly £467,000 in insurance payouts based on his false claims. The court proceedings revealed Hopper's sexual interest in amputation and his deliberate deception of medical professionals and insurers. Following these revelations, Hopper has not worked at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust since March 2023 and is facing legal consequences for his actions.
