Ballot Box Distribution Begins for 2024 Elections

The Sri Lankan Election Commission has begun the distribution of ballot boxes and essential materials for the 2024 General Elections, which will take place on November 14. Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake confirmed that the distribution will occur at 13,314 polling centers between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with a rehearsal planned to ensure a smooth election process. Additionally, special security arrangements have been made, with 64,000 police officials deployed across all polling stations. A total of 8,352 candidates are contesting, including 5,006 from political parties and 3,346 independents, with 17,140,354 voters eligible to participate. The election day voting is set to commence at 7 a.m. tomorrow. This comprehensive effort underscores the importance of a secure and efficient electoral process in Sri Lanka.
