Delhi Bans Fuel Supply for 15-Year-Old Vehicles from March 31

Starting April 1, the Delhi government will prohibit fuel supply to petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years as a measure to combat severe air pollution in the city. This initiative, announced by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, will involve equipping fuel pumps with devices to identify and restrict fuel access for these older vehicles. The government is also mandating the installation of anti-smog guns at high-rise buildings and commercial complexes to further reduce pollution levels. Additionally, nearly 90% of CNG public transport buses will be phased out by December 2025, being replaced by electric buses. While the initiative is largely supported by environmental activists, concerns have been raised about its enforceability and the economic implications for owners of older vehicles. The success of this regulation will depend on effective implementation and public cooperation.
