Chris Brown Released On $6.7M Bail Ahead UK Assault Trial, Tour Resumes

Chris Brown has been released on £5 million ($6.7 million) bail by a London court while facing charges of grievous bodily harm with intent related to an alleged assault on music producer Abe Diaw at Tape nightclub in Mayfair in 2023. The judge allowed Brown to continue his scheduled world tour starting June 8 in Amsterdam and subsequent UK dates, including Manchester, with bail conditions requiring him to surrender his passport when not touring, reside at a court-approved address, avoid the nightclub and the victim, and refrain from applying for new travel documents. Brown, who was arrested in Manchester and initially denied bail, did not attend the bail hearing but is expected to appear in Southwark Crown Court on June 20 alongside co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, also charged in connection with the case. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Brown striking and assaulting the producer with a bottle before punching and kicking him. The case has raised questions about Brown's ability to tour while facing serious criminal charges, but the court's decision prioritizes his appearance at trial as a condition of bail. Neither Brown nor Akinlolu has entered a plea yet.
