I-90 Overpass Severely Damaged Near Cle Elum

On Oct. 21 a semi truck carrying an oversized, over‑height load struck and severely damaged the Bullfrog Road overpass at Exit 80 on I‑90 near Cle Elum, scattering debris and leaving damaged girders and rebar over the roadway. WSDOT engineers judged the westbound span beyond repair and an emergency contractor, Scarsella Bros., began demolishing the damaged section under an emergency contract, with work planned through Oct. 25; westbound I‑90 is tentatively expected to reopen early next week while one eastbound lane will be closed overnight. Gov. Bob Ferguson issued an emergency proclamation to access federal recovery funds and said the state will pursue repair costs from the trucking company; the Washington State Patrol cited the driver for a permit violation. WSDOT officials said a new overpass will be designed and contracted in the coming weeks and that the repair bill could exceed $8 million; drivers should expect detours at Exit 80 and travel delays while demolition and recovery proceed.
