Myanmar, China, Japan Target Regional Scam Networks

Cyberscam centers in Southeast Asia have proliferated, with Myanmar's instability facilitating crime syndicates' operations. Japan's police have identified Nigerian-led groups defrauding Japanese citizens via social media scams, highlighting a broader trend of West African scam groups exploiting global victims. In response to rising cross-border scams, China is collaborating with Myanmar and Thailand to combat online gambling and telecom fraud, which threaten regional stability. Myanmar has pledged to China to intensify efforts against scam gangs, particularly along the Thailand-Myanmar border. As part of a joint operation, China, Thailand, and Myanmar are coordinating efforts to dismantle scam networks, with recent arrests of suspects in Myanmar.
