Murder-Suicide at Rice University's Jones College

Andrea Rodriguez Avila, a junior from Maryland studying at Rice University, was found dead in her dorm room in what police believe to be a murder-suicide. The incident occurred on the first day of classes when Avila did not attend her courses, prompting a welfare check by university police. The body of an unidentified man, suspected to be Avila's boyfriend, was also found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators found no signs of forced entry and suspect Avila had let the man into her dorm. A note left by the shooter suggested a troubled romantic relationship.
