Multiple Earthquakes Strike Southeast Asia: 4.2 to 5.1 Magnitudes
On March 16, 2025, several earthquakes were reported in the region surrounding Indonesia and the Philippines. A magnitude 4.2 quake struck near Davao, Philippines, but was not felt by residents. In Indonesia, a magnitude 4.7 earthquake occurred in the Flores Sea at a significant depth of 402 km, also not reported as felt. Additionally, a 4.6 magnitude quake was detected near Havu Island with a shallow depth of 26 km, and a 4.4 magnitude quake occurred in the Banda Sea. Earlier, on March 15, a magnitude 5.1 quake was reported near Pelabuhanratu, West Java, at a depth of 59 km, which likely caused light vibrations felt by nearby residents. All earthquakes were monitored by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre and other seismic agencies.
