American Airlines Planes Clip Wings at Reagan National Airport, No Injuries
On April 10, 2025, two American Airlines planes collided on the taxiway at Reagan National Airport, with several members of Congress on board one of the aircraft. The incident involved American Flight 5490, which was headed to Charleston, South Carolina, and American Flight 4522, bound for JFK International Airport in New York. No injuries were reported, and both planes safely returned to the gate without impacting airport operations. Congressman Nick LaLota and Congresswoman Grace Meng expressed relief that everyone was unharmed, while also highlighting concerns regarding FAA staffing and safety. The FAA is currently investigating the incident. This minor collision follows a recent serious accident involving a Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines flight near the same airport.
