Veterans Day Observances Planned Nov. 11
Communities and organizations nationwide are preparing Veterans Day observances scheduled for Nov. 11, with formal ceremonies planned at the Oregon State Capitol (11 a.m., livestreamed on the ODVA Facebook page), VFW Post 4909 in Dupont (11 a.m. at 401 Main St. with a presentation by State Rep. James Haddock), and Westport Town Hall (11 a.m., preceded by a 10:30 a.m. Community Band program). Mississippi’s statewide ceremony will feature the 41st Army Band, a moment of silence, recognition by the Adjutant General, a memorial volley and wreath laying, and the Two Mississippi Museums will offer free admission on Nov. 7 to veterans, active service members and one family member. Local schools are hosting Veterans Day programs in the days leading up to Nov. 11, and the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs maintains a statewide events calendar to help Oregonians find nearby observances. Businesses and nonprofits emphasize year‑round support through initiatives such as altafiber’s VALOR employee group and Bright Horizons’ programs for military families, and organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project urge practical supports for veterans’ needs. Organizers note events are open to the public, provide accessible accommodations, and encourage communities to submit observances to local calendars so veterans and families can participate and access resources.
