Zelensky Rejects Russia Ultimatum, 30-Day Ceasefire Demand Amid Territorial Talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared he will only personally negotiate territorial sovereignty issues directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin, rejecting Moscow's peace proposal which demands Ukraine recognize the loss of five regions, withdraw forces, maintain neutrality, and reduce its military. Zelensky labeled Russia's terms as an ultimatum and insisted on an immediate, unconditional 30-day ceasefire. Despite stalled peace talks, a prisoner exchange proceeded involving wounded and young Russian prisoners of war, alongside the return of over 6,000 deceased Ukrainian soldiers, underscoring ongoing humanitarian efforts amid conflict. Zelensky also warned that Russia aims to destabilize southeastern Europe, including Moldova and Romania, calling for unified regional security measures to prevent further Russian aggression. In response, Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky cautioned that Ukraine's refusal to compromise will lead to additional permanent territorial losses, emphasizing Russia's resolve to achieve its war aims and criticizing Ukraine's Western alignment. Meanwhile, Russian forces have made advances in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, signaling a significant escalation as peace negotiations remain deadlocked.
