At New Yorker Festival, Moore Says Cruise 'Embarrassed'

Speaking at the New Yorker Festival, Demi Moore recalled that during preproduction of A Few Good Men she arrived nearly eight months pregnant and that co-star Tom Cruise seemed "quite embarrassed" when they began reading lines together. Moore said she felt fine but sensed an awkward dynamic she attributes to an era when actresses were often pressured to choose between career and motherhood. She described putting intense pressure on herself to prove it was possible to do both—training for a military-role uniform late in pregnancy, hiking and biking near her due date, and continuing to work while breastfeeding and rehearsing blocking. Moore reflected that the industry is more supportive of young mothers today. Cruise’s representatives had not responded to requests for comment.
