Bangladesh Expected to Finalize Starlink Internet Deal Within Three Months

Bangladesh's interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, announced that a commercial deal with Elon Musk's Starlink is expected to be finalized within three months, aiming to provide reliable internet services across the country. This initiative is seen as a strategic move to prevent future government-imposed internet blackouts, which have historically disrupted citizens' access to online resources during political unrest. Yunus highlighted that once Starlink is operational, no government would be able to restrict internet access, thus promoting digital freedom. The agreement also aims to bolster the economy, particularly supporting the global digital outsourcing industry vital for many Bangladeshi freelancers. Amidst an inflation rate that has recently dropped to 9.32%, Yunus expressed hopes for further economic improvement and reaffirmed the commitment to hold national elections between December 2025 and June 2026. This deal with Starlink is perceived as a step towards strengthening ties with U.S. technology leadership and enhancing the country's digital infrastructure.
