He was arrested on July 25 by U.S. authorities after being allegedly kidnapped and flown into the U.S. by Joaquín Guzmán López, El Chapo's son. Zambada faces charges including drug trafficking, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit murder. Federal prosecutors in Texas initially sought to keep the case but were overridden by the Justice Department due to security concerns near the Mexican border. The trial will take place in the same courthouse where El Chapo was convicted in 2019. Zambada's attorney claims his client was forcibly kidnapped and brought to the U.S. against his will.
