Suspect Killed, Officer Injured in Independence Crash

Early Friday morning, a police chase on Interstate 70 in Independence resulted in the death of a suspect and serious injuries to an officer. The incident began just after 5 a.m. when officers attempted to stop a white sedan, which fled and eventually made a U-turn, driving the wrong way on an exit ramp. This reckless maneuver led to a head-on collision with a responding police car. Despite lifesaving efforts, the driver succumbed to injuries at the scene, while the officer was hospitalized with serious injuries. The Crash Investigations Unit is currently investigating the incident, and police have not yet released the identities of those involved.
