Ogden, Utah, has been designated as one of eight new American World War II Heritage Cities by the National Park Service (NPS) in recognition of its significant contributions to the war effort. This designation honors communities that supported the war through manufacturing, farming, and volunteerism, emphasizing the vital role of the home front during World War II. Alongside Ogden, the other recognized locations include Calhoun and Ouachita Counties in Arkansas, Plymouth Township in Michigan, Valley City in North Dakota, the Municipality of Tinian & Aguiguan in the Northern Mariana Islands, Ponca City and Kay County in Oklahoma, and North Kingstown in Rhode Island. NPS Director Chuck Sams highlighted the importance of remembering the contributions from both large and small towns, which helped the Allied forces. With this announcement, the total number of designated cities now stands at 38 since the program's inception in 2019. Each state is allowed one designation, ensuring a fair representation of local histories across the nation.
