Uzbekistan Opens Central Asia's Largest Wind Farm

Uzbekistan has inaugurated the 500MW Zarafshan wind farm, developed by Abu Dhabi-based Masdar, marking it as Central Asia's largest wind facility. The project, launched by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aligns with Uzbekistan's goal to achieve 20GW of clean energy capacity by 2030, aiming for 40% of its electricity from renewable sources. Masdar has committed $2 billion to various clean energy projects in Uzbekistan, which include over 2GW of capacity, and a pipeline of 4GW is in early development stages. UAE Minister of Industry Sultan Al Jaber emphasized the importance of the UAE-Uzbekistan partnership in advancing clean energy initiatives and socioeconomic growth. The wind farm symbolizes Uzbekistan's leadership in climate action and its commitment to sustainable development.
