Steadfast LA Provides Homes for LA Fire Victims
Rick Caruso's nonprofit, Steadfast L.A., in partnership with Samara and supported by Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, is set to provide free prefabricated homes for victims of the Palisades and Eaton fires in Los Angeles. This initiative aims to aid low-income, uninsured, or underinsured residents who lost their homes and lack the financial means to rebuild. The program, backed by a $15 million donation from Gebbia and matched funding from Steadfast, will facilitate the construction of 80 to 100 modular homes. These homes are designed to be fire-resistant and are built offsite, taking five to six months to complete, with installation on the affected properties taking only a few weeks. The initiative seeks to maintain community integrity by allowing displaced residents to remain in familiar neighborhoods. Caruso's approach emphasizes the role of the private sector in disaster recovery, contrasting with city and state-led solutions.
