TGL Expands to Detroit with Seventh Franchise in 2027

TGL, the indoor golf league co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, announced its first expansion team, Motor City Golf Club, set to debut in the 2027 season. The new franchise, representing Detroit, is led by Middle West Partners with key ownership from the Hamp family, longtime owners of the NFL's Detroit Lions, alongside Denver Broncos owner Rob Walton and others. Michael Hamp, team governor and co-owner, expressed pride in bringing a new golf format to Detroit, honoring his grandfather and the city's passionate sports culture. TGL's CEO Mike McCarley highlighted Detroit's championship legacy and the ownership's deep community ties as foundational for the team's identity. The Motor City Golf Club will join the existing six teams, with player roster details and branding yet to be announced. This expansion reflects TGL's strong momentum following its inaugural season, which concluded with the Atlanta Drive winning the championship.
