A Fairfax County police officer fatally shot a 33-year-old woman in Reston, Virginia, after she slashed his face with a knife and continued advancing despite repeated warnings to stop. The incident, captured on the officer's body-worn camera, occurred during a wellness check requested by the woman's mental health provider. Police Chief Kevin Davis detailed that the woman had a history of mental health issues and prior encounters with the police. The officer, who had crisis-intervention training, tried to de-escalate the situation but was forced to shoot when she continued to pose a threat. The woman was hospitalized with critical injuries and later died, while the officer is expected to recover.
