Construction has begun on a $94 million renovation project at Town and Country Apartments in Binghamton, New York, aimed at enhancing affordable housing options. The project will modernize the 256-unit complex, fully electrifying its infrastructure and improving energy efficiency by 20%. This initiative is part of Governor Kathy Hochul's $25 billion five-year Housing Plan, which targets the creation or preservation of 100,000 affordable homes statewide. The apartments will cater to households earning 60% or less of the area median income and will receive significant upgrades, including new flooring, windows, and energy-efficient appliances. Local officials have hailed this project as a crucial investment to address long-standing housing needs in the region. The funding includes $70.9 million from the state’s Homes and Community Renewal agency and additional support from various housing programs.
