Nigeria and ECOWAS Deny Niger's Allegations

The Nigerian government, backed by ECOWAS, has strongly refuted allegations from Niger's military leader, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, accusing Nigeria of colluding with France to destabilize Niger. Tchiani claimed that France was negotiating with terrorists in Nigeria and that Nigeria was housing French nationals expelled from Niger. Nigeria's Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, dismissed these accusations as unfounded and a distraction from Tchiani's administrative failures. The Nigerian government reiterated its commitment to peace and security in West Africa, stressing its regional counter-terrorism efforts. Nigeria also denied any French military presence, clarifying that its agreements with France are centered on economic cooperation rather than military alliances. Both Nigeria and ECOWAS reaffirmed their dedication to fostering diplomatic relations and regional stability.
