Michigan Woman Indicted for Smuggling Aliens Including Children From Canada
Norma Linda Lozano, a 53-year-old woman from Ypsilanti, Michigan, has been indicted on federal charges for her involvement in an international alien smuggling conspiracy that transported illegal immigrants, including children, from Central America into the United States through Canada. Between February and November 2024, Lozano allegedly participated in a smuggling operation that directed migrants to cross the northern border on foot using GPS coordinates and descriptions of her vehicle, then picked them up and transported them further into the U.S., charging fees for these services. Specific incidents include smuggling a five-year-old girl who rode in the front seat while Lozano falsely claimed she was her granddaughter, as well as transporting six adults and two children, one of whom was placed in the cargo area of her vehicle. The indictment is part of a broader enforcement effort by the Department of Justice and Joint Task Force Alpha, which focuses on dismantling trafficking networks threatening U.S. border security. Attorney General Pamela Bondi emphasized the DOJ's commitment to aggressively prosecuting human smuggling and ensuring severe justice for those profiting from the exploitation of vulnerable migrants. Lozano faces one count of conspiracy to smuggle aliens and six counts of bringing aliens into the U.S. for profit.
