Four Eversource Workers Hospitalized After Transformer Incident Causes New Bedford Power Outage

A possible explosion or equipment incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. Friday on East Rodney French Blvd. in New Bedford while Eversource crews were confirming or securing power to a transformer, with most reports saying four workers were injured though one outlet initially reported three. Two workers were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital and two to Rhode Island Hospital (one transfer was reported), and one worker has since been released while the conditions of the others have not been publicly confirmed. The event caused a brief outage affecting roughly 1,300–1,347 customers, and power has since been restored. Eversource, OSHA, and the New Bedford Fire Department Investigation Unit are actively investigating the incident.
