Stagecoach South is enhancing accessibility for bus passengers in Portsmouth with new onboard technology that announces bus stops and points of interest, part of the Portsmouth Bus Service Improvement Plan. The initiative, supported by Portsmouth City Council, aims to make public transport easier for all users, including those with accessibility needs, as well as visitors to the area. Meanwhile, the United Way of Northwest Florida is launching a 'Stuff the Bus' campaign to collect school supplies for teachers across several counties, encouraging donations at local Walmarts. In a broader trend, many U.S. school districts are transitioning to electric school buses, bolstered by a $5 billion investment from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, with over 8,570 electric buses already committed. San Juan Unified School District has also introduced electric buses, providing a quieter and cleaner alternative for students, while South Adams Schools in Indiana will implement SMART Tag technology for tracking students on school buses starting in the 2024-25 school year. These advancements reflect a growing commitment to improving transportation and educational resources.
