Suspect Detained After Attack on French Synagogue

French police have detained a suspect linked to an arson attack and explosion at the Beth Yaacov synagogue in La Grande Motte, southern France, which injured a police officer. The suspect, reportedly draped in a Palestinian flag, set fire to cars and two synagogue doors, causing a gas canister to explode. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin and interim Prime Minister Gabriel Attal visited the site, describing the incident as a narrowly avoided tragedy. President Emmanuel Macron labeled the attack as an act of terror, emphasizing the daily fight against antisemitism. Security at Jewish sites has been heightened, and two associates of the suspect were also detained. The anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office is leading the investigation.
