FIU Snaps Seven-Game Losing Streak with 38-28 Shula Bowl Win Over FAU
In the 23rd edition of the Shula Bowl rivalry, Florida International University (FIU) defeated Florida Atlantic University (FAU) 38-28, snapping FAU's seven-game winning streak in the series. FIU's strong second-half performance, scoring 21 consecutive points after trailing 21-17 at halftime, was key to the victory. Senior running back Kejon Owens was named Shula Bowl MVP, rushing for a career-high 173 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Keyone Jenkins threw for 184 yards and a touchdown and added a rushing score. FIU's defense also played a crucial role by limiting FAU to just seven points in the second half and forcing three interceptions. The game featured first-year head coaches Willie Simmons for FIU and Zach Kittley for FAU, with Simmons now 1-0 in the rivalry. FIU improved to 2-1 on the season and is set to host Delaware in its next Conference USA game.
