Aldi has been named Britain's cheapest supermarket for 2024, outpacing its rival Lidl, according to a study by Which? that analyzed grocery prices across eight major UK supermarkets. Throughout the year, Aldi consistently offered the lowest prices on a standard shopping list of 56 items, including staples like milk and butter, costing an average of £100.29 in December. Shoppers who regularly purchased from Aldi could save approximately £393 annually compared to shopping at Waitrose, the most expensive supermarket during the same period. Lidl, while consistently in second place, charged £101.48 with its loyalty scheme and £101.56 without for the same shopping list. Waitrose shoppers faced a December bill of £129.83, marking a £29.54 increase compared to Aldi. The research highlights the potential savings for consumers by switching their shopping habits.
