Former Broward Teacher Arrested on Six Sexual Battery Counts

Basil Farrington, a longtime Broward County Public Schools employee, was arrested on multiple counts of child sexual battery relating to incidents that allegedly occurred between 2011 and 2014 when he was a teacher at Boyd H. Anderson High School. The charges involve at least four instances of sexual battery against a student who was under 18 at the time. Farrington had worked at Boyd Anderson from 2000 to 2015, followed by a teaching role at Whiddon Rogers Education Center until 2020, and most recently served as a grant facilitator with no direct student contact. During his bond court appearance, prosecutors sought to hold Farrington without bond due to the severity of the allegations, but the judge set bond at $150,000 with conditions including GPS monitoring, house arrest, and restrictions on contact with minors and school property. Broward County Public Schools has reassigned Farrington pending the outcome of the case. His defense attorney highlighted his lack of prior criminal history and his proximity to retirement.
