Homicide Confirmed in Big Sky Campsite Death

Dustin Kjersem, a 35-year-old man from Belgrade, Montana, was found dead in a remote campsite near Big Sky, initially suspected to be a bear attack, but later confirmed as a homicide. An autopsy revealed Kjersem suffered 'multiple chop wounds,' indicating he was killed by an unidentified weapon. The investigation has been complicated by the remoteness of the area, which lacks cell service, hindering communication and evidence collection. Gallatin County Sheriff Dan Springer urged the public to remain vigilant as the killer remains at large, with no arrests made or suspects identified. Kjersem, a self-employed contractor and father, had planned a camping trip with a friend, who found his body after he failed to show up.
