John Keehner Named Bishop of Sioux City
Pope Francis has appointed Reverend John Keehner as the eighth bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sioux City, Iowa, succeeding Bishop R. Walker Nickless. Keehner, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, was ordained in 1993 and currently serves as pastor of four parishes in Northeast Ohio. His appointment, effective May 1, was announced by Cardinal Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States. Bishop-elect Keehner expressed his humility and gratitude for this opportunity, emphasizing his commitment to serving with a shepherd's heart. Bishop David Bonnar from the Diocese of Youngstown praised Keehner for his pastoral gifts and humble zeal. The installation ceremony will take place at the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City.
