South Dakota, Minnesota Men Arrested for Decapitation Murders

Bowen Fladland, a man from Clark, South Dakota, has been arrested and charged with first- and second-degree murder in the decapitation and killing of his mother, Marlene Fladland. Authorities found Marlene's body buried in the front yard of their home after receiving reports of assault and threats made by Bowen against her in previous years. During a post-Miranda interview, Bowen admitted to kneeling on his mother's neck until she was apparently deceased before decapitating her with a tool. Bowen was previously convicted of aggravated battery for assaults on his mother and was serving a suspended sentence at the time of the murder. The investigation is being led by South Dakota's Division of Criminal Investigation with assistance from local police, and Bowen is currently held on a $500,000 cash-only bond. In a related but separate case in Minnesota, Jordan Dupree Collins Sr. was charged with second-degree murder in the decapitation death of his teenage son, Manny Collins Jr., whose remains were found in a landfill following an extensive search.
