Amazon MGM Takes Over Bond; Villeneuve to Direct

Barbara Broccoli, longtime James Bond producer, has stepped back from creative control of the franchise alongside Michael G. Wilson after Amazon MGM Studios' acquisition, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman now producing Bond 26. Denis Villeneuve, endorsed by Broccoli and described as a fantastic filmmaker, has been named director and will also serve as an executive producer. Broccoli is focusing on new projects, such as a stage musical adaptation of 'Sing Street.' The new Bond film is in early development, with no cast announced and production not expected to begin until Villeneuve completes work on 'Dune: Part Three.' Villeneuve, a lifelong Bond fan, called the role a massive responsibility and pledged to honor the series' tradition while guiding its future. This marks the first time the Broccoli family will not be directly involved in Bond creative decisions, signifying a major shift for the franchise.
