Tripura has been severely hit by relentless heavy rains, resulting in catastrophic flooding and landslides that have claimed at least 22 lives and displaced around 65,400 residents in recent days. The state government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased and has indefinitely closed all educational institutions to ensure student safety. Rescue operations have intensified with the deployment of IAF helicopters and NDRF teams, while relief efforts are ongoing across 450 shelters. The heavy rainfall has led to dangerously high water levels in multiple rivers, substantial damage to infrastructure, and extensive crop losses. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Tripura, forecasting continued heavy rainfall. The flooding situation has also affected neighboring regions in Bangladesh, exacerbating the crisis.
