Drew Barrymore OK After Emergency Biopsy
On the Nov. 3 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Drew Barrymore revealed she recently had a breast cancer scare after a “bad mammogram” prompted an emergency biopsy and a five-day wait for results, and said she is “completely fine” now while visibly emotional. She discussed the experience with comedian and survivor Tig Notaro, who underwent chemotherapy and a double mastectomy and said the illness “cracked me open,” urging people to accept help from loved ones. Barrymore credited Notaro’s documentary Come See Me in the Good Light for giving her the courage to raise the topic on her show and praised its intimate portrayal of life with cancer. The conversation continued Barrymore’s pattern of candidly discussing health and aging; she recently turned 50 and has spoken publicly about choosing not to have cosmetic procedures while urging empathy for others’ choices.
