Multiple Fatalities in Minneapolis Encampment Shootings

Minneapolis witnessed multiple shootings at homeless encampments over the weekend, resulting in three fatalities and several injuries. The first incident on Saturday morning involved a shooting at an encampment near 21st Street East and 15th Avenue South, where one man died and two others were critically injured. On Sunday, a second shooting occurred at a small encampment near Snelling Avenue, leaving two men dead and a woman critically injured. No suspects have been identified in either case, and police are investigating possible connections between the incidents. Police Chief Brian O’Hara highlighted the persistent issues of crime and unsafe conditions associated with encampments, noting that approximately 13% of Third Precinct crimes occur near these sites. Mayor Jacob Frey and O'Hara have called for systemic solutions to address the violence and broader problems related to homeless encampments.
