Portland Clinic to Close Downtown Location

The Portland Clinic, a physician-owned facility that has served downtown Portland for over a century, will cease patient care at its location on Southwest 13th Avenue beginning mid-December, citing ongoing public safety issues, particularly concerning crime and open drug use in the area. Police records reveal over 60 incidents this year, including violent crimes and drug-related activities, prompting the clinic to prioritize patient and staff safety. The clinic plans to transition all patient services to its other locations in Portland, Beaverton, and Tigard, while retaining approximately 100 employees for administrative purposes. Holly Young, the clinic's marketing director, emphasized that this decision was difficult but necessary due to the ongoing safety concerns surrounding the facility. In recent months, the surrounding area has seen an increase in fentanyl dealing, prompting concerns from both the clinic and local residents. The move marks a significant change for the clinic after 104 years in its downtown location as it shifts resources to better serve patients at alternative sites.
