PSG Signs Ukrainian Defender Zabarnyi From Bournemouth for €63M

Paris Saint-Germain has secured the signing of 22-year-old Ukrainian central defender Illia Zabarnyi from Bournemouth in a deal valued around €63-68 million ($69-70 million), making it the second most expensive transfer for a Ukrainian player. Zabarnyi, who has signed a five-year contract until 2030, was a key figure in Bournemouth's defense last season, making 36 Premier League appearances and helping the club achieve its highest ever Premier League points tally. He forms part of PSG's reinforcement strategy following their treble-winning 2024-25 campaign under Luis Enrique, who continues to strengthen the squad after winning the Champions League, Ligue 1, and Coupe de France. Zabarnyi will join PSG's squad for the UEFA Super Cup match against Tottenham but will not feature in the game. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi praised Zabarnyi as a talented international who will contribute significantly to the club's long-term project. With the departure of other key defenders from Bournemouth to top clubs, the English side looks set to rebuild its defense, reportedly targeting Lille's Bafode Diakite as Zabarnyi's replacement.
