Author Releases Unheard Fred West Police Tapes Revealing Family Murders and Abuse
Fred and Rose West, infamous British serial killers, subjected their family and victims to horrific abuse, including rape, torture, and murder, at their home known as the 'House of Horrors' in Gloucester. Their daughter Heather was strangled, dismembered, and buried beneath their patio, while stepdaughter Charmaine and multiple other victims, including pregnant mistresses and ex-wife Rena, were found buried in and around their properties. Surviving children, including Fred and Rose's youngest son Barry, endured ongoing sexual abuse and trauma; Barry witnessed the murder of his sister Heather at age seven and later described his mother as more psychotic than his father. Author Howard Sounes, a leading expert on the case, accessed over 100 hours of previously unreleased police interviews, revealing the extent of the abuse and the harrowing childhood experiences of the West children, such as Anna-Marie West being raped at age eight and subjected to torture devices built by Fred West. The West children were sometimes exploited by others at their parents' parties, highlighting the pervasive and systemic nature of abuse within the household. Barry West died in 2021 from a painkiller overdose after years of psychological torment related to his traumatic upbringing.
