Florida Gators Add Sacramento State Guard Kovatchev, Fill Final Scholarship

The Florida Gators men's basketball team has completed its 2025-26 roster by adding guard Alex Kovatchev from Sacramento State via the NCAA transfer portal. Kovatchev, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound guard from Perth, Australia, has international experience playing alongside Florida forward Alex Condon on Western Australia's U20 team that won a gold medal in 2023. He averaged 5.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 33 games as a freshman before a leg injury limited him to four games in his sophomore season, where he averaged 8.5 points and 5.0 rebounds. Florida coach Todd Golden described Kovatchev as a developmental player who brings toughness and defensive intensity, with room to improve offensively. This signing fills the Gators' final scholarship spot as they prepare to defend their national championship. Kovatchev's addition complements previous transfers like Xaivian Lee, Boogie Fland, and AJ Brown, rounding out a deep and versatile roster.
