The Humana Foundation has pledged $3 million to support the construction of the Community Care Campus in Louisville's Smoketown neighborhood, aimed at addressing homelessness. The $58 million project, led by Volunteers of America (VOA) Mid-States, will feature affordable housing, a family shelter, a community center, and medical respite care, and is set for completion in 2027. Louisville Metro Government and the state have contributed $22.5 million, with additional funding from low-income housing credits and other sources. A temporary emergency shelter will open later this year, with a permanent family shelter expected by next summer. The initiative seeks to transform the area and provide comprehensive support, including medical and behavioral health services, to the homeless community. Humana Foundation's CEO, Tiffany Benjamin, emphasized the importance of community collaboration in tackling homelessness.
