Seahawks Active, Woolen Unlikely; Vikings Seek Backup
With the NFL trade deadline at 4 p.m. ET on Nov. 4 approaching, the 4-4 Minnesota Vikings are viewed as potential buyers after J.J. McCarthy’s return and an upset win over the Lions, and are seeking a low-cost veteran backup to protect McCarthy given thin QB depth (undrafted Max Brosmer active; John Wolford on the practice squad). Analysts say a veteran would help even after McCarthy’s strong outing, and Minnesota appears more likely to target short-term, non-threatening options than a costly starter. Meanwhile, Seattle has been linked to deadline activity and GM John Schneider says the team is engaged in talks, but multiple insiders report the Seahawks are reluctant to move key pieces and Riq Woolen is now seen as unlikely to be traded. Seattle is reportedly focused on adding offensive-line depth and possibly another receiver rather than making cap-driven departures, and teams have inquired about young edge Boye Mafe though he remains a valued asset.
